Making a difference to society
Making a significant difference in the communities we serve is what motivates us to uphold our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Through our CSR initiatives, we prioritise education and healthcare accessibility. We support students of all academic levels by providing them with books and sponsorships, enabling them to achieve their academic goals.
Moreover, we contribute to the construction of school buildings and libraries, enabling tribal children to receive quality education. Our free Village Medical Centre (VMC) ensures that local communities have access to essential healthcare services, including medical consultations and medicines. To further promote well-being, we conduct regular free eye check-ups. In line with our commitment to holistic development, we also undertake projects related to drinking water and rural development, positively impacting the lives of villagers and fostering sustainable progress.
Our commitment to community development is not just a business imperative; it a core value that drives our actions. By fostering an environment of inclusivity, progress, and mutual respect, we continue to be a catalyst for positive change, contributing to the growth and well-being of the communities we serve.
Promoting education
Promoting education for underprivileged children
At the beginning of each academic year, we provide books of all academic levels—from Kindergarten to Post-graduation—in an effort to encourage education among students from underserved communities. This effort supports and encourages students from adjoining villages to pursue their education.
Moreover, we recognise the achievements of outstanding students by rewarding them with several prizes and sponsorships. We have also helped build new school buildings and a library, empowering rural and tribal youngsters by providing them with education.
Promoting gender equality and women empowerment
Through our extensive CSR efforts, we strive to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women. We have established a free skill training centre with a focus on tailoring. By equipping these women from underprivileged backgrounds with the necessary skills, we aim to enhance their economic opportunities and improve their overall quality of life.
To further demonstrate our commitment to the cause of financial inclusion, we have also distributed Widow Pension to recipients in nearby communities.
Supporting rural development projects
Several underprivileged villagers near the Mahistikry plant have benefited from the Company's ongoing rural development project by having Pucca (RCC) houses built in place of Kutcha (mud) homes, thus improving their quality of life. We are resolute in our commitment to the effective and responsible administration of essential urban resources and facilities, assuring the access and affordability of such facilities to the citizens.
In addition, we are engaged in enhancing the infrastructure and overall well-being of people living in rural areas. This includes initiatives to provide housing, access to clean drinking water, sanitisation facilities, reliable power supply, and sources of income. Through these comprehensive measures, we ensure sustainable development of villages where communities can thrive.
As part of this commitment, we have successfully delivered permanent housing to a total of 1,700 villagers across five neighbouring villages.
Making healthcare accessible
Our initiative has brought significant benefits to the rural communities in the Singur area and the surrounding regions of its Mahistikry plant in West Bengal. We support the Free Village Medical Centre, providing crucial assistance to the local community by offering free medical consultations, check-ups and medication. Additionally, we conduct a range of awareness camps, including Eye Camps, Medical Camps and Diabetes Awareness Programmes.
Moreover, we also conduct a Cataract Operation Camp, a commendable effort that helps enhance the quality of life for the members of the communities we serve. We also provide free medicines to economically disadvantaged families and individuals, ensuring access to essential healthcare resources.
Our efforts are not limited to medical services; we also contribute significantly to the healthcare infrastructure. Ambulances, medical equipment, and other vital supplies are given to the Lion's Club Hospital in Dhanakhali, which has a greater impact on the local healthcare system.
Our diverse efforts underscore our dedication towards the well-being of the communities, making a tangible and lasting difference in healthcare accessibility and overall quality of life.
Eradicating hunger
Through our CSR wing, Himadri Foundation, we organise camps in different areas of nearby villages and provide essential support, such as food and clothing, during times of disasters or natural calamities like floods and droughts, as well as during various festivals irrespective of religious affiliations. These efforts collectively reach approximately 100,000 beneficiaries.
During the challenging times of the pandemic, we extended a helping hand to the communities around our Mahistikry plant. Recognising the dire need for support, we initiated a remarkable CSR programme, providing essential sustenance including food and daily necessities to the villagers in the vicinity. In addition to easing immediate hardships, our prompt action demonstrated our commitment to the local community's welfare in the face of these unprecedented circumstances.
Promoting environmental sustainability
Our effective CSR programmes serve as a shining example of our commitment to environmental sustainability. The building of a thriving Green Belt around our factory is part of our progressive strategy, showing a real effort to reduce our environmental footprint. We also promote the planting of trees by participating in initiatives that promote reforestation. With approximately 30,000 tree planting activities, we have not only beautified the landscape but also engaged in significant landscaping efforts across the five neighbouring villages, benefiting over 16,000 villagers.
